CARA AND DIEGO ROMERO: TALES OF FUTURES PAST
Museum: Albuquerque Museum, Albuquerque, NM
Exhibition Dates: Now through Sunday, February 8, 2026
Official Information
A dynamic exhibition combining printmaking, photography, and ceramics, Cara and Diego Romero: Tales of Futures Past features the work of married artists Cara Romero (Chemehuevi) and Diego Romero (Cochiti Pueblo). This traveling exhibition, organized by the Figge Art Museum, presents 35 works—including 16 photographs, 15 pottery pieces, and several collaborations—that explore the complexities and evolution of Indigenous identity.
The artists fuse popular culture, ancestral traditions, and the supernatural to create protagonists empowered by their Indigeneity, rewriting historical narratives and examining environmental consciousness. As Assistant Curator William Gassaway notes, the show is “a visual delight but also an intellectual deep dive,” blending powerful ideas with humor and lush color.
