While the Very Large Array outside Socorro is open to the public seven days a week with admission, twice a year (April and October) the radio astronomy telescope array opens its doors for a free day of discussions, guided and self-tours, t-shirt making, and more. The Visitor Center and the entire facility welcomes people of all ages (and well-behaved dogs on leash) for sciency-fun and incredible photo ops. Food trucks are on site, too, making the beautiful drive through the Plains of San Agustin worth the visit.
