Guest conductor Alejandro Gómez Guillén leads the New Mexico Philharmonic on a journey from dark romanticism to a vivid orchestral tour. The concert opens with the dramatic overture to Weber’s Der Freischütz, followed by a dynamic showcase of contemporary American voices. Saxophonist Christopher Creviston performs John D. Lennon’s vibrant Escapades, and the orchestra presents works by Carlos Simon (Portrait of a Peaceful Scene) and Jessie Montgomery (Strum). The program culminates with the brilliant colors and grand procession of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition in Ravel’s celebrated orchestration.
