About the Workshop:
Create watercolor paints from earth pigments. These natural colorants come from rocks, minerals, and soil. They offer a sustainable, eco‑friendly alternative to synthetic paints. Using materials directly from our environment, we’ll build a unique palette that captures the essence of New Mexico’s landscapes.
Day one begins with a foraging hike in Placitas. We’ll collect rocks and other natural materials. We’ll also explore additional resources sourced from across the state. Using mortar and pestle, we’ll grind these raw materials into fine pigments and transform them into handmade paints.
Day two focuses on technique. We’ll use our earth pigment watercolors to explore abstract and landscape painting styles.
