This exhibition features the work of Douglas Miles (White Mountain Apache, San Carlos Apache, and Akimel O’odham), a painter, printmaker, photographer, and founder of Apache Skateboards. Miles explores the connections between skateboarding and the Apache warrior tradition, blending traditional and contemporary practices in art that intersects with fine art, pop culture, and sport.
Always & Forever includes Miles’s installation You’re Skating on Native Land (2022), which uses skateboards as moving canvases to reassert the sovereignty of motion and present Native American cultures as dynamic and contemporary. The exhibition also features a new installation addressing the forced removal of Apache Tribal members from their land through the Indian Removal Act, the Apache Wars, and the Allotment Act.
